Social Equity Distinguished Lecturer Presentation
Edinboro Borough Manager, Kevin Opple, will speak about the tension that is often found between the qualities of Inclusion and Excellence. Rather than the common view of excellence as either a barrier to diversity or a lowering of standards, he proposes that many high performing organizations focus on potential for success in recruiting and then build frameworks of training to achieve high standards. He will relate to his experience in more than two decades of public service and personal life to discuss how the search for excellence which is often bound to the idea of elitism and exclusion can and should be inclusive. In today’s competitive world, it is vital to actively promote inclusiveness while maintaining excellence, whether in academia, business, or government. This is central to the espoused American societal value of equal opportunity for all citizens.
