Social Equity Distinguished Lecturer Presentation
Access to Quality Mental Health Service: A Social Justice Issue presented by Dr. Katherine Wardi-Zonna It is common for those among us with the greatest need for mental health service to be denied access to quality treatment. Having access to Mental Health Service is an issue of Social Justice. Estimates are that 60 million Americans, both adults and children, are living with a mental health concern and nearly half of these individuals go without satisfactory treatment for their condition. Our current system is based largely upon who has the resources to obtain the needed services. This presentation will discuss the complexity of this issue in terms of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the legacy these events have in terms of physical, emotional and psychological functioning throughout life.
