Black Womanism Rising: Beyonce, JayZ & the Quest to Burn the Patriarchy to the Ground
Dr. Rhonda Matthews, Department of History, Politics, Languages & Cultures
Beyonce is arguably one of the world’s biggest musical artists. Throughout her career, she has become increasingly political in revealing her public stances, especially as they relate to feminist ideology. However, the personal is often political and the art that she, and partner JayZ, have created by revealing some of their own struggles, has had the biggest impact on her audience. We will explore the messages and effects of the public discussions of family, Blackness, and the evolving views about what it means to be a women, a man and a family.
