I AM ENOUGH!
A conversation on the balancing act of managing intersectionality and being a woman of color
Pertrina Marrero, Director Center for Diversity and Inclusion
Marissa Rodriguez, Assistant Director of Admissions/Diversity Recruiter
Denise Manjarrez, Manager of Campus Life and Student Services - Porreco College
As we maneuver through and around intersectionality; a theoretical framework for understanding multiple social identities and how they intersect; we fail to take into account and address disparities and social inequalities as it pertains to women of color. The need for recognizing intersectionality as a unifying framework is underscored. This panel will discuss and have meaningful candid dialogue about the balancing act women of color have to navigate in their daily lives through systems of privilege and oppression such as racism, sexism, and heterosexism. We will discuss topics such as self-preservation and coping skills, code switching, maintaining informal meeting groups, focusing on religion and religious practices in this presentation! Come join us!
