16th Annual Health Fair

Edinboro University will host its 16th Annual Health Fair on Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Frank G. Pogue Student Center. The event is free and open to the entire campus and Edinboro community.

The theme is “The First Wealth is Health.” More than 60 vendors will offer health and wellness information, massages and product samples. The Health Fair is sponsored by the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and Student Health Services.

When should I start preparing for my exams? How much time should I spend studying? Come to this workshop to learn successful test preparation strategies. Students will learn techniques for maximizing their success on final exams.

Making a Wheelchair Super: Disability in Comic Books
"Making a Wheelchair Super: Disability in Comic Books," the final presentation in "Taking Superheroes Seriously," a three-part series of lectures and panel discussions exploring comics' take on real-life problems, will be presented from 4:30-6 p.m. April 16 in the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center Recital Hall.

Admission is free. Parents are advised that the series will contain adult content.

Duo Scarlatti classical guitar performance
Duo Scarlatti, an acclaimed Italian classical guitar duo, will perform Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The duo -- Nicola Pignatiello and Daniele Sardone -- are two of the youngest teachers at the Conservatorio S. Celelia in Rome. Their repertoire consists of original music for two guitars and baroque music written for cembalo and transcribed by the duo. They have won numerous national and international competitions, and a number of important contemporary composers are writing new music for Duo Scarlatti.

Barry Gray to speak about travel and gender
Do women and men experience travel differently?  Do they write about their journeys from different perspectives?  Can they explore the same place and have distinctive viewpoints?

Barry Gray, Technical Services Librarian at Baron-Forness Library of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, has researched those questions. He will be giving a presentation on Monday, April 21, from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Millcreek Branch Library, on his findings.   

Gray will contrast prominent female “on the road” authors with well-known male travel writers when he speaks on April 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Millcreek Branch Library Community Room, 2088 Interchange Road, outside the Millcreek Mall.  His presentation is free and open to the public.

Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle film series’ purpose is to introduce four documentaries with riveting new footage illustrating the history of civil rights in America. Edinboro University will offer a series of screenings, lectures, discussion forums, and scholarly presentations centered on this collection of documentaries beginning February 20, 2014.

Film and Discussion: "The Abolitionists"

"The Abolitionists," which vividly brings to life the struggles of the men and women who led the battle to end slavery, will be shown Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in Compton Hall, Room 107A. The event is part of both the "Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle" film and lecture series and the Lincoln and the Civil War Lecture Series.

Professor Umeme Sababu of the History, Anthropology, and World Language Department will lead the discussion.
