Concussion Awareness: Jayden Moffa
Jayden Moffa is vying for the title of Miss Pennsylvania America Competition in June 2018. Over the past three years, she has been advocating for baseline concussion testing to become mandatory for school physicals. She has worked with State Senator Kim Ward as well as Westmoreland County Commissioner Charles Anderson. Jayden has sustained two concussions and is still dealing with long term effects of these injuries. Her presentation focus is to advocate for individuals with concussions and educate the public.

EU Planetarium presents "The World at Night"
Children are invited to join EU’s Planetarium team, led by Dr. David Hurd, Planetarium director, and journey into the world as seen through the eyes of our animal friends during the nighttime hours.

This program is specifically for children ages 1 through 12.

Leveraging Technology to Improve the Outcome of Surgical Patients

On April 19,  Dr. Carmen Quatman will discuss how the internship she completed while at Edinboro University launched her into her career as a surgeon-scientist. Quatman, who graduated pre-med from Edinboro University in 2002, will discuss her research on creative studies and how they can drive partnerships between clinical, scientific and technological aspects of medicine.

During her internship, Quatman began studying falls in female athletes and continued on to study fall prevention in older adults. From that point she was able to work on the improvement of safety in operating rooms.

Dr. Carmen Quatman is an orthopedic surgeon at Ohio State University/Wexner Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at OSU.

The African Student Association will present a panel discussion at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in Compton Hall, Room 107A. The panelists will discuss the division between Africans and African Americans.

How Athletics Shaped My Life Beyond 4 Years of Collegiate Eligibility
Dr. Carmen Quatman will discuss how her time as a college athlete prepared her to be a trauma surgeon. From hours of practice to the ability to adapt when a situation become unpredictable, the operating room and the court are more similar than some would think. A Q&A portion will follow the lecture.

Dr. Quatman is a 2002 pre-med graduate from Edinboro University. During her time at EU she was on the  Student Athlete Advisory Committee and helped lead the women’s volleyball team to the NCAA Elite 8. Quatman is currently is an orthopaedic surgeon at Ohio State University/Wexner Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at OSU.

Getting There from Here: One Humble Person's Opinion

Chris Oyesiku grew up in Nigeria as one of nine children, yet, somehow, he found himself at Edinboro University studying computer science. Flash forward a few years and he’s now the Team Leader for Software Development at Logistic Plus, Inc. in Erie, PA. On April 20, Oyesiku will be back at Edinboro University to discuss setting personal and professional goals while navigating the hardships of life. 

Oyesiku will lecture in Ross Hall in room 136. The lecture is free and open to student and faculty.
