Barry Gray to speak about travel and gender
Do women and men experience travel differently?  Do they write about their journeys from different perspectives?  Can they explore the same place and have distinctive viewpoints?

Barry Gray, Technical Services Librarian at Baron-Forness Library of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, has researched those questions. He will be giving a presentation on Monday, April 21, from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Millcreek Branch Library, on his findings.

Gray will contrast prominent female “on the road” authors with well-known male travel writers when he speaks on April 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Millcreek Branch Library Community Room, 2088 Interchange Road, outside the Millcreek Mall.  His presentation is free and open to the public.

"The question I am asking: Is/was Lincoln the 'Great Emancipator,' or was he forced into glory by the political, social, economic climate of which the abolitionist was an important part?" Professor Sababu states. "Second, did enslaved African Americans simply wait around for some miraculous decree, or were they utilizing their own tactics and strategy (human agency) to strike out for freedom during the ensuing war years?"
