JCPenney is partnering with the Edinboro University Career Center to provide professional clothing at a discounted price. During the event, students and alumni can purchase suits, dresses, sport coats, pants, skirts, blouses, ties, accessories, bags and shoes to build a career wardrobe.

In addition to these savings, the Center for Career Development and Experiential Learning has teamed up with the Edinboro University Foundation to provide five students a $100 JCPenney gift card that may be used during the event. Recipients will be selected at random during check-in, and must be in attendance for a chance to win.

Celtic Nights (in conjunction with the Highland Games and Scottish Festival)

Journey with us to Edinburgh, Scotland, where we relive the night sky over Edinburgh while learning about Celtic constellations, Scottish traditions and mythology. Round-trip tickets to and from Edinburgh are included!

Scottish Trivia Contest
Grab your tartan and get ready for some trivia as part of the Highland Games & Scottish Festival!
Join us on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pogue Multipurpose Room for a night of Scottish and Edinboro University trivia. Teams of 3 will compete in a friendly game of trivia—no buzzers, no pressure, just fun!

Team categories include: undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty/staff/community members. The members of the winning team from each category will each receive a prize package valued at $100 including: 5 chances (value $50) in a raffle to win a trip to Scotland with Edinboro University in August 2020, a Highland Games t-shirt (value $15), a ticket to the Ceilidh dinner (value $15) and more!

Highland Games and Scottish Festival
Scotland has proud traditions of independent and innovative thinking, and the Edinboro Highland Games and Scottish Festival celebrates that heritage.

Please join us for the 26th Annual Edinboro Highland Games & Scottish Festival September 3-8, featuring exceptional music, dance, athletics, art, food, and family gatherings! From beer tastings by local brewers to kids' games and student competitions, the festival offers fun for all ages.

The main festival events and games will be held throughout Saturday, Sept. 7, on the campus of Edinboro University. Bagpipe music will fill the air throughout the day, while pipe bands and soloists march together and compete against one another. Between the impromptu concerts, musical tent and numerous workshops, burly athletes will toss various weighty objects on the back lawns as part of the ever-popular heavy athletic competitions. Those events include the caber toss, hammer, stone and 56-pound weights for height and distance.

The Highland Ambassadors aim to serve the University and its students. We strive to improve the University and local community through service projects as well as to enhance the educational and social experiences of its members.

The Highland Ambassadors participate in many events held on campus. We walk in the Homecoming Parade with our President and his family. We also work commencement, alumni events, and admissions events. Along with that, we also hold receptions at the President's House.

We take pride in our prestigious reputation on Edinboro's campus, therefore we are looking for students who love being a part of the Edinboro family and who have a passion for serving and bettering the University.

Stories Over Silence (S.O.S.)
Edinboro will host Stories Over Silence (S.O.S.) Day on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Held in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day, the campus-wide event will focus on holistic health, emphasizing mental-health awareness, education and self-care.

Wellness activities – ranging from guest speakers to rock climbing and therapy dogs – will be held from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Edinboro University’s main campus. Students who participate in the activities will be entered to win gift cards, gift baskets and other prizes.

Jefferson Educational Society Lecture Series
Jefferson Educational Society, a nonprofit civic-engagement institution founded in 2008, will bring an educational lecture series to Edinboro University – with regional experts delivering educational presentations from July through December.

Lectures will begin at 7 p.m. in the William P. Alexander Music Center – Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.

Sept. 10 – Mark Squeglia, “Mobilizing Industry in World War II: How Did the U.S. Become an Arsenal for Democracy.” A lecturer at the Jefferson since 2010, Squeglia focuses on military history, specifically World War II. He has worked regionally for Hammermill Paper Company, Erie Insurance and General Electric.

Celebrate the 9th year of Edinboro Wizardfest (aka Edinboro Potterfest). We remain focused on family fun and education from the Harry Potter saga in book and film, but we also celebrate the new J.K. Rowling wizard world: Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them.

Wizardfest is a collaboration of campus and community. Nearby businesses and organizations contribute a lot to the success of Edinboro Wizardfest. We strive to promote Edinboro University and to give a boost to our surrounding, support communities.

WPSD & School of Education Open House
Edinboro University’s School of Education and the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD) welcome the community to the second annual open house at Edinboro’s main campus.

Five on-site programs and classrooms – located in Butterfield Hall, 310 Scotland Road – will be on full display from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 14 for the WPSD & School of Education Open House.

Edinboro’s campus community and visitors will learn about the Western PA School for the Deaf Children’s Center, Boro Little Learners Academy (on-campus preschool), Edinboro’s all-ages art therapy classroom, Dr. Mary Jo Melvin Literacy Center and a set of mock counseling rooms for the Department of Counseling, School Psychology and Special Education.

New this year, Edinboro University welcomes The Big Cheese food truck to campus for lunch.

Join the Interfraternity Council (IFC) for "Grill with the Greeks" on Saturday from 2-6 p.m. Members of Edinboro University's fraternal organizations will be grilling up free food and playing volleyball at the Highlands 1 volleyball court.

The IFC provides a sovereign governance structure for men's fraternities at Edinboro University.

Greek Life organizations at Edinboro provide service, academic and social opportunities throughout the semester, allowing members to develop leadership skills and form lifelong friendships.

eSports ribbon-cutting
Edinboro University is officially cutting the ribbon for the eSports competition complex in the heart of campus.

In collaboration with Erie-based architecture and design firm Weber Murphy Fox, Edinboro University designed the space in Hamilton Hall for the first collegiate-level gaming program in Western Pennsylvania. Edinboro's eSports team will compete in digital contests such as "Fortnite," "League of Legends," "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" and "Hearthstone" among nearly 150 programs across the U.S.

Uncomfortable Conversations – The People's Will?
Americans choose presidents through the Electoral College. What is it? Why do we have it? Why have some U.S. Presidents – including two of the last three – received fewer popular votes than rival candidates, yet won the presidency? Is the Electoral College still relevant? And, if we wanted to change it, is it even possible?

These are the questions that will be addressed by our panel of political analysts.

About the panelists

Gerry Gendlin is an associate professor of International Politics at Edinboro University, where he has taught courses in Russian Politics, American Foreign Policy, National Security, Terrorism and Political Violence, and American Politics since 2002. Dr. Gendlin holds a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has held research and teaching positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and the College of the Holy Cross. He maintains an active research agenda, presenting at national and regional conferences, and is regularly engaged by the media as an analyst of global affairs.

Bridget Jeffery has served as assistant professor of Political Science at Edinboro University since 1997. Her research has included analyzing the influences of political factors, judicial decisions, campaign finance policies and President Nixon’s federal judicial appointment strategy. In addition, she serves as academic advisor for first-semester Porreco College students. Jeffery earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Kansas and has taught courses such as Law and Society, Judicial Process and Behavior, Civil Liberties, Constitutional Law, Women and Politics and American Presidency.

Brian Lasher is a retired career Naval Officer who conducted strategic planning and joint operations in the Middle East and Africa. In 2007-2008, he was assigned to the Strategic Engagements Division of Multi-National Forces Iraq in Baghdad, where he was responsible for planning inter-governmental support for economic development and reconstruction. Lasher holds a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He teaches International Relations, Advanced Placement (AP) Government and AP World History at Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy in Erie.

About the series: Launched during the 2017-2018 academic year, Uncomfortable Conversations was developed as a series to engage in meaningful, civil discourse on timely, often sensitive, issues that are shaping the national dialogue.

Jefferson Educational Society, a nonprofit civic-engagement institution founded in 2008, will bring an educational lecture series to Edinboro University – with regional experts delivering educational presentations from July through December.

Lectures will begin at 7 p.m. in the William P. Alexander Music Center – Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.

Sept. 24 – Judy Lynch, “The History of Erie County’s Responsibility for the Poor.” Dr. Lynch served as the Erie County Executive for 20 years and was the first chairperson of the Jefferson Educational Society. She has lectured regionally on history and civic engagement.
