Chicken Run 5K

Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the Inaugural Chicken Run 5K on Saturday, Sept. 23, in memory of Edinboro alumna Breanna Lynn Elder. Proceeds from the event, which will also feature a one-mile run and a kids fun run and walk, will benefit the Bre Humble and Kind Fund for student scholarships.

Breanna's family and friends are establishing the Bre Humble and Kind Fund to honor her memory while encouraging young adults to become teachers. The fund will provide scholarships to General McLane School District students to pursue elementary and special education at PennWest Edinboro.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the race to start at 10:30 a.m. – rain or shine. All participants who register by Sept. 12 will receive an event t-shirt. Runners are asked to register here.

The race will start and finish at the Doug Watts Cross Country Course.

Race winners will be announced prior to Edinboro’s home football game against the California Vulcans. All first-place winners of the 5K will receive free tickets to the football game.

PennWest Edinboro Education Department will provide fun activities and crafts for the children in the Kids Fun Zone. Children will enjoy the visits by the Chick-fil-A “Eat More Chikin” Cow, Doodles, the Fighting Scots’ beloved MacCato, and the Chicken Run’s very own “Bestie.”

The event is hosted by Ghering Health and Wellness Center and the Fighting Scots softball team. Local businesses have donated items for a basket raffle, and all attendees can purchase a $10 sheet of tickets to win a basket.

Major sponsors for the event include PennWest University, Leader Graphics, Rebich Investments and the Lincoln Daniel Bufalino Foundation. The Erie Runners Club will provide precision timing.
