JES Satellite Campus Lecture: Raven Clark

An Erie-based nonprofit institution that promotes civic enlightenment and drives community progress for the region will host a series of three satellite lectures on campus at PennWest Edinboro.

The “Satellite Campus Lectures,” hosted by Jefferson Educational Society, will feature three prominent local speakers – including a retired Edinboro professor – throughout the fall.

Community agriculture activist Raven Clark, retired Edinboro geography professor Dr. Baher Ghosheh and psychology and neuroscience professor Dr. Rodney Clark will present their topics at the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center – Recital Hall, 110 Kiltie Road, on Edinboro’s campus. Admission and parking for the lectures are free for all attendees.

Raven Clark, urban agriculture and food policy activist and the satellite program coordinator at JES, will kick off the satellite programming at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Clark’s presentation, “Urban Agriculture and ‘Green’ Cities,” will cover the basics of urban agriculture in northwest Pennsylvania and the future of “green” cities.

An Erie native who studied music, political science, law, public policy, economics, history, French, Arabic, math, geology and environmental science at Allegheny College, Clark spent two years actively participating in independent and group research of urban agriculture and food policy.

Her undergraduate research examined the ways in which Erie and Meadville, Pa., have begun to embrace urban agriculture on a policy level – and the ways that other cities in the region have made advancements in urban agriculture. Read more.
